How to calculate an ACT Superscore

Have your students taken the ACT® test more than once? Many universities allow students to submit an ACT Superscore during the application process. Superscoring averages the four best subject scores from all ACT test-taking attempts.

Calculating your superscore is easy! Share these tips with your students:

Step 1. Gather all ACT score reports.

Step 2. Fill out a table with your test dates and corresponding scores from all of your ACT tests so you can easily compare subject scores. Here is an example.

Step 3. Identify your best score in each subject by circling the highest number in each column.

Step 4. Calculate the average by adding those four scores together, dividing by four, and rounding to the nearest whole number.

– Add the four scores together: 22 + 23 + 23 + 22 = 90

– Divide the sum of the four scores by 4: 90 ÷ 4 = 22.5

– Round to the nearest whole number: 23

Your ACT Superscore is 23!

Starting in September 2020, all students taking the ACT within and outside the United States will receive an ACT Superscore on their score report (if they have taken the test more than once).
